Powerpoint, how I love thee

I feel like most people groan when they hear they have to give a Powerpoint presentation in a class.

I die of excitement.

I immediately think of what topic I'm doing, what will the cover slide look like? What colors will be my theme? What fonts? I'm a crazy Powerpointer. Now that I've graduated, my chances of doing Powerpoints are pretty much non-existent. But wait! My boyfriend is in grad school! A second chance! Now whenever he has a powerpoint to do I squeal with excitement. He does all the information and then I spruce it up with graphic magic.

The other day he was doing a presentation on basically anti-acids and I was trying to think of how to design it all when I thought wouldn't it be adorable to have a stomach cartoon? So I went with it and came up with these cutesy cartoons:

Isn't he sooooo cute?!?!?!? I just want to pet him...even thought he's a stomach.

I drew him in Flash because I find it easier to work with than Illustrator ironically. I just LOVE that you can grab a line in Flash and bent it just by dragging...so easy. I added him all around the powerpoint and I giggle everytime I see him.

So I really am trying to blog more, or I guess journal is the proper word, on here. I've been really obsessed with blogs lately like Paper Crave *shudders with joy*. I spend way too much time on there.

I got a new camera so now I can really blog like a blogger should. Onward!

Well, I stumbled upon (literally, on stumbleupon.com) these SUPER AWESOME paper toy calenders by Curiosity- one for every month of the year of 2011. I love these and even though I missed January and February I still want to make them because they're adorable. I made the March one tonight:

Isn't he adorable??? Sorry this pic is so small, I thought it would be bigger...but I love his yellow sneakers :) The poem is cute too, if you can't see it it says, "In a city where rain falls like hella, there's no choice but to have an umbrella- so get down in a huddle, stand on top of a puddle, and let your voice ring out acapella." I have been obsessing over throwing a Shannon a birthday party that is black and white/penguin themed and I about died when I saw these printable milk carton favor boxes from Paper Crave over on The Sweetest Occasion. I made a few changes to fit the theme of the party including a little penguin with a bow-tie and a cute straw :)

Again, sorry it's small. The link to download them shows the nutritional facts which are presh (I've decided to start using that word..we'll see how it grows on me). I'm going to fill them black and white sixlets I think, I'm not entirely sure. I made a bunch of printables for the party as well including cupcake toppers that I need to cut out. I don't have a circle cutter yet so I was going to buy the Martha Stewart one at Michaels for 17.99 that looks glorious:

Shannon said there was one at Walmart for cheaper and I wondered what could compare to Martha Stewart? But I wanted cheaper. I was a little skeptical that it was the same thing I wanted, but apparently it was a lot cheaper so I thought why not. Get to Walmart and I see this pink thing that looks like a protractor.

So ya. If you feel tempted to buy the Exacto brand circle cutter, just say no. Although it is only 7.99, it will rip any paper you have to shreds. Now I may not have been using it right, but for heaven sake cutting out a circle should not be so hard! Martha Stewart wins again, and I will be getting the good one soon.

Wedding + Design = CRAZY

I have to say, designing my own wedding invitations was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. I have heard different people say not to design your own because you'll go crazy, but I think it adds an extra level of personality to the wedding. Man, it was hard to get started! You know that you want to make them as awesome as possible, and since you're the one making them you do go a little crazy just deciding what you want. I was browsing around one day and was totally inspired by this. My fiancé is a chemist and we're having a chemistry themed wedding and how adorable is it to have love potion on the invites? After that it was really easy since I knew what I wanted and then I could move on to how I would print them. At first I thought I wanted to buy the kits at Target where you print your own invitations but all I could find where the ones with embellishments around the edges which I foresaw as being an issue in the printing process since I wanted the image to bleed.

Then I looked on the internet to see what I could find where you could upload your own designs. I found plenty of websites for wedding invitations, but none that were fully customizable that I saw. Finally, I just decided to go to Vistaprint where I had business cards printed several years ago. Very good quality, SUPER affordable and fully customizable. We got our Save the Dates, invites, RSVP postcards and info cards all on VP and since I ordered them over the holidays we got them for 50% off! We got 100 of each plus envelopes for around $200, yay for DIY!

I found this awesome vintage poster online and Photoshopped our names in. I am quite proud of it I must say. We sent them as magnets so everyone could hang them on the fridge and admire my handiwork..er..I mean remember the date of our wedding :) It's very exciting! I'm also designing the table numbers which will actually be elements with descriptions about us like this:

There are so many other details to make! I'm trying really hard to "brand" the wedding so that it's consistent. throughout.
